PEDRO ROMERO
Game Designer

BIO

Hello, welcome to my portfolio.

I’m a Game Designer and Software Engineer with 8 years of experience in the videogame industry. During that time, I worked professionally on all types of projects: from tiny mobile games to multiplatform releases.

I started my career as Programmer, but I'm steadily moving to designer roles. My most recent position is Technical Designer.

I try to keep learning as much as possible, learning new Technologies; practicing other fields like Board Game Design and Narrative Design and joining Game Jams from time to time.

PROFESIONAL PROJECTS

Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtle: Mutants Unleashed

Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtle: Mutants Unleashed is an action-adventure I developed during my time at AHeartfulOfGames.

At the start of the project, I had the role of Programmer and later moved to the position of Technical Designer.

As Programmer, I didn’t have a fixed task on the project, as I worked on both implementing new functionality and fixing and improving previous systems. My main contribution was the “Smartphone System”, a mini-game for the downtime between missions.

As Technical Designer, I gave support to the rest of the design team, helping them with tasks that were more complex at a technical level, like the limited-use power-ups and some user interfaces. I’m particularly proud of the Highway levels, a recurring auto-scroll stage.

Kluest

Kluest is a Social MMO for Android. I worked on that project during my time as Programmer at Sons of a Bit.

During the first months, I worked fixing bugs and adding small improvements to the game.

Later on, I was tasked with a major rework of their “NPC Interaction” System. It took me a year to replace the old, very limited system with the new one, much more robust and extensible.

With the new system, I also extended the combat system of the game. During my last months at the company, I implemented new enemy encounters for the combat system.

PERSONAL PROJECTS

I like to take some of my free time to work on my own games, to practice with new technologies, improve my design skills and to simply work on projects outside the scope of my day job.

I also participate from time to time in Game Jams, as the time limit and limitations allow me to better focus and to try new things.
